There was a time about thirty years ago, well before the designer fashion clothing and accessory craze really took off, when sneaker brands like Nike and Converse all had several fantastic choices in high top sneaker styles. Then something terrible happened. The high top sneaker began to take on the connotation of and be associated with geeky jocks. In short, they simply lost their “street creds”.

The low and semi-high top came into style in a big way. To make matters worse, back in the 80's the Japanese who were right in the middle of an economic boom and flush with cash all suddenly decided that old used Nike and Converse high tops where the ultimate must have “reverse” fashion item. They were buying them up for as much as $300 per pair “a ton of money back then” so there weren't even any old crusty used high tops left that may have been laying around.

Fast forward to 2009! Thats now by the way and today, low and behold like a ghost from the past up pops new high top Gucci sneakers. Not only that, but these are built along the same classic lines as traditional high tops of yesteryear. They're a high quality durably built sport shoe that can truly take the beating that a real athletic sneaker can be forced to endure.

There is one thing however that does separate these new high top Gucci sneakers from their original distant ancestors that were pounded around neighborhood basketball courts back in the 80's and that is price. They cost upwards in the area of $500+ which is a good chunk of change, considering back in the day a brand new pair of solidly built Converse high tops would have set you back a whopping $19. Even so, these sneakers are still a way better deal the a set of Kanya West Lois Vuitton's that will set you back some $300 more!
